Nel presente studio si vuole ripercorrere questo periodo attraverso l’esperienza del volontario italiano Rutilio Sermonti che dopo l’armistizio, trovandosi sul fronte greco, aderì dapprima alle Waffen SS Italia e partecipò poi agli ultimi giorni della Repubblica Sociale Italiana. La sua figura è utile per ricostruire alcuni dei passaggi che portarono i reduci del fascismo a ritrovarsi nel periodo democratico, e a fondare successivamente il Movimento Sociale Italiano.
